Hershel Roy Brewer, age 90, of Bible Grove, Missouri was born May 26, 1923 in Adair County, Missouri, the son of O.R. and Beulah (Rummerfield) Brewer. He passed away at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 where he had been a resident since December 2011.

On February 2, 1942, he was united in marriage to Maxine Blaine and to this union three children were born, Karen, Jim and Connie.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Brewer of Bible Grove, Missouri; his children, Karen Corwin and husband, Tom of Bible Grove, Missouri, Jim Brewer and wife, Sue Jane of Downing, Missouri and Connie Wood of Memphis, Missouri. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Chris (Billie Jo) Childress of Memphis, Missouri, Kelle (Bill) Gunnell of Downing, Missouri, Aaron (Sarah) Brewer of Kirksville, Missouri, Matthew (Jessica) Brewer of Memphis, Missouri, Dustin Swearingen of Kansas City, Missouri and Bradley Wood of Memphis, Missouri; nine great grandchildren, Kala and fiancé, Danny Stoll, Kara and Kyle Childress, Shane Gunnell, Gabrielle and Claire Brewer, Reagan Brewer, Tyler Swearingen and Brayden Wood; one sister, Dorothy Smith of Kirksville, Missouri; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wesley and Stanley; three sisters, Edith Christman, Hilda Beeman and an infant sister. Hershel was a lifetime farmer. He served on the Bible Grove School Board and the ASC Board in Scotland County. For 32 years, he was a dealer for the Vermeer Company Hay Equipment. Hershel was a member of the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri for 16 years and attended faithfully as long as his health permitted.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Betty Anderson and soloist, Schelle Cooley. Special musical selections will be "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art" and a congregational singing of "Beulah Land".

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, which include Aaron Brewer, Matthew Brewer, Chris Childress, Dustin Swearingen, Bradley Wood and Bill Gunnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Merlyn Beeman, Robert Christman, Wayne Brewer and Roger Smith. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri on Friday, July 12, 2013.

Memorials have been established for the Downing Christian Church or to the Bible Grove Cemetery. Burial will be in the Bible Grove Cemetery in Bible Grove, Missouri.
