Richard "Dick" Lamielle graduated from Alliance High school in 1944 and he studied Business Administration for 1 year, starting in 1946, at Mount Union College. He went through Army boot camp in WWII as an infantryman and then served in the Coast Guard in Texas, Virginia and California. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in October 1946. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and had also been honored for being a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years. Having lived in the Alliance, OH area for the first 85 years of his life, he moved to NC in early 2012 to be closer to his sons.
He was best known for his love of ballroom dancing. He also liked to bowl and he cheered for the sports teams of Cleveland and Ohio State University. He was a lifetime baptized member of St Joseph and Regina Coeli Catholic churches in Alliance.
He married his first wife, Betty Jean Dugan, in 1951 and she died in 1968. She was the mother of his 3 sons. He married his 2nd wife, Mary Phillips, in 1969 and divorced in 1976. This marriage gave him a stepdaughter, Carie, and 2 stepsons, Jeff & Johnny. His closest friend and dancing partner for 10 years, Jean Morris, died in 2010.
He was originally an engineering draftsman for Alliance manufacturing designing Genie garage door openers. He also worked as an accountant at McCaskey register in Alliance, as a draftsman at Hunt Valve in Canton, as a saleman for Sears in Alliance and as an apartment manager for Sawburg apartments in Alliance.
He will be laid to rest at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alliance.
