Son of the late Lawrence and Nona Miller Atkins, he was the widower of Elizabeth C. Mathe Atkins. Additionally, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence Atkins, Norman Atkins and Tom Atkins; and sister-in-law, Anna Mae Mathe. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force (Korea). He retired as an art teacher from the Alleegheny Valley School District in Springdale, PA. He was survived by six nieces and nephews; his father-in-law; his sister-in-law; and an extended family of relatives and friends. His funeral was held on July 18, 2013, with The Rev. John J. Hoogerbrugge officiating.
