Major General War of 1812. Mooers entered the Revolutionary Army in June of 1776 as a private in the militia. In March of 1778 he was promoted to Ensign and in 1780 was promoted to Lieutenant and Adjutant of the Regiment. After the war had ended he moved to Clinton County, New York and was appointed Sheriff, and settled in the town of Plattsburg, then considered the back country of the state. At the turn of the 19th century he was elected to the state legislature, and in 1808 he was appointed an Elector to choose the President and Vice President. He continued his affiliation with the state militia and after a series of promotions was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. In late 1811 with war looming with England, he was promoted to major general of militia. He commanded the State militia at the battle of Plattsburg on September 11, 1814 commanding a total of six brigades extending from Franklin to Albany counties. Mooers had participated in most of the important battles of the revolution including Ticonderoga, Saratoga, White Plaines and was at Yorktown when Cornwallis surrendered.
