Mike Lucero, 76, a longtime Prescott, Ariz., resident, passed away Dec. 26, 2011.

He was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Los Lentes, N.M., outside Albuquerque. His family moved to Safford, Ariz., when he was 11. Mike proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He married his wife Mary in Duncan, Ariz., on Aug. 1, 1959. Mike and Mary together had two children, Elizabeth and Mike Jr. After leaving the Air Force, Mike worked for Magma Copper Mines in San Manuel, Ariz., for 16 years.He and his family then moved to Prescott where he was employed by the United States Postal Service for nearly 30 years, most of those years as a window clerk in the downtown office. He serviced Prescott residents and was fondly called "Mr. Post Office" by many long-time locals. Mike is remembered for his excellent dedication and service to his customers.Mike retired early to care for his wife, who became gravely ill in 1997. He became a dedicated caregiver for the next 14 years until his own health gave way. He became the consummate example of a loving spouse.Mike loved nature, the Prescott forest, and politics, and had a deep faith in God. He possessed a great sense of humor, high intellect and a generous heart for the poor. He will be remembered as a fun and loving father. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. He is survived by four brothers; his wife of 52 years, Mary; his daughter Elizabeth (Jeff) Henning; and son Mike Jr. Services were at Sacred Heart Parish.
