He was born in Ovid, Colo., April 23, 1920, to Leslie and Ana Snook Bending. He grew up and attended school in North Platte, graduating from North Platte High School with the class of 1939. Al joined the U.S. Army during World War II. He served honorably from 1942 to 1945.
