Khamis "Joe" Kassissieh age 74 of Bloomington passed away at his residence early Tuesday morning April 16, 2013. He was born April 23, 1937 in Jerusalem Palestine to Issa Kassissieh and Malakeh Shamieh Kassissieh.
Joe attended Purdue University briefly before entering the United States Army from 1961 to 1963, and then completed his studies at Indiana State University where he received both his bachelors and masters degrees.
He spent his professional career firstly with Stran Steel in Terre Haute before moving to Bloomington to work with Otis, RCA and ultimately General Electric.
Joe is survived by his wife Linda L Van Meter Kassissieh to whom he was married to June of 1960; daughter Angela Kassissieh; daughter Pamela Wines and husband Shaun; daughter Sheila Smith and husband Forest, and son Anthony Kassissieh and wife Kathy. Joe was grandpa to 7 grandchildren who also survive. They are Brandon, Katherine, Lauren, and Evan Wines, Nicholas, Emma, and Hannah Kassissieh. He was one of 10 children. Najib, Anis, Naheel, Salwa, and Dalhi survive. Kahalil, Jamahil, Rifka, and Suhelia have preceded him in death along with his parents, and his brother in law Allen Van Meter. Darlene Van Meter, a sister in law along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Joe will be held Saturday April 20, 2013 at 1:00PM at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, Indiana. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00AM until the time of the service at 1:00PM. Visitation will also be held on Friday April 19, 2013 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37 Bloomington.
