Dorothy T. Simpson, 93, of Falmouth passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Falls Run Nursing and Rehab Center.
A native and longtime resident of Falmouth, Dorothy attended primary school at Enon and was a graduate of Falmouth High School. She was the widow of Samuel F. Simpson Sr., also of Falmouth. An active church goer, Dorothy was a member of Hull's Memorial Baptist Church and attended Antioch United Methodist Church, where she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher and superintendent, UMW member and soprano in the choir.
In addition to being a consummate wife, mother and homemaker, Dorothy held a number of occupations throughout her life including dental assistant and, until her retirement, secretary of Hartwood Elementary School. She was renowned for her skills in the kitchen, sewing room and workshop, winning numerous ribbons for her various crafts at the Fredericksburg Fair.
Dorothy and her husband, Samuel, members of the classes of 1936 and '35, respectively, were instrumental in the formation of the Falmouth High School Alumni Association. She remained, to her last days, an enthusiast of their annual reunion and a contributor to their museum collection.
She is survived by her children, Samuel F. Simpson Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Tolland, Conn., Harriet S. Burch and her husband, Robert, of Falmouth, Pamela DeBergh and her husband, Richard, of Winchester and Thomas A. Simpson and his wife, Sherri, of Glendie; siblings Jane Edwards, Nancy Withers and Noble Truslow, all of Falmouth, and Page Shrum of Fredericksburg; in-laws James Edwards of Falmouth, Jeffrey Shrum of Fredericksburg and Elizabeth Lasch of Ocala, Fla.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, all dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Florence Truslow of Falmouth; brother Pete of Fredericksburg; and baby sister Harriet.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery.
