MANSFIELD: DONALD LEE CHASE, 72, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 in Kindred Hospital following a short illness.

He was born November 29, 1940 in Shelby to parents Willie H. and Dorothy M. (Burkepile) Chase. Donald graduated from Springfield Local High School in Ontario in 1960. After graduation he joined the United States Army serving from April 29, 1961 until April 28, 1964. Donald was previously a volunteer fireman/EMT for the Franklin Twp. Fire Dept. He also worked for Conrail Railroad, Artesian Industries, Tappan and ultimately retired from Newell Rubbermaid in 2003.

Donald enjoyed watching NASCAR, going to the races, the Cleveland Indians, playing euchre, bowling, and spending time at his grandchildren's events. He was a permanent fixture at Mansfield City School events. He spent many years keeping the scorebook and coaching for the Union Athletic League, the Mansfield Recreation Department, and Police Athletic League (PAL). He liked attending local fairs and tractor pulls. Donald was also a member of the local neighborhood watch. He was active in his Church, participating in small group activities and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

He was a member of North Woodbury Alliance Church and later Heartland Church in Lexington.

He is survived by four daughters: Karen Chase of Mansfield, Loreli Esterline of Galion, Tammy McLaughlin of Mansfield, and Marjory Chase of Ontario; six grandchildren: Cody Esterline, Coral Esterline, Casey (Chris) Zickefoose, Brice Chase, Courtney (Larry) Jackson, and Caitlynne McLaughlin; two great-grandchildren whom he adored: Malynki Jackson and Marquis Chase; and siblings William (Wanda) Chase, Mary Faye Garove, Jim Chase, John (Gerry) Chase, Tom (Margaret) Chase, Helen (Ron) Rosser, and Robert (Paula Dennis) Chase.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Judy Ann (Greene) Chase on July 29, 1996; Linda McCracken (mother to Karen and Tammy) on March 14, 1991; a sister-in-law Bette Chase; a brother-in-law Roger Garove; mother-in-law Mildred (McCurdy) Greene and father-in-law Arthur Greene.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heartland Church, 2505 Lexington Springmill Road S. in Lexington. Pastor Andy Vallance will officiate and burial with military honors will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to benefit his family (please make checks payable to Snyder Funeral Home).
