She was 86 years old. Born in New London, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Ruth (Weaver) Heston.
She grew up in Mansfield, Ohio. She served in the United States Navy Nurse Corps in the 1950's and 1960's and received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Ohio State University. She worked as a nurse at numerous health care organizations including the Red Cross, Visiting Nurses of Virginia, and Fairfax Hospital. Doris lived in Northern Virginia from 1965 to October 2011 when she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by husband, John Bessor; step-son, Bruce Bessor; brother, Glenn Heston; and sister, Charlene Musick .
She is survived by daughters, Bonnie Bessor (Les) and Penelope Gilliland (Matt); step-daughter Judy McDowell (Lance); brother Richard Heston (Helen-dec); and grandchildren, Ruby and Linus.
Memorial service is Sunday July 14, 2013 2:00 p.m. at Saint David's Episcopal in Ashburn, Virginia- see sdlife.org for driving directions. Interment St. David's Cemetary.
