Barbara J. Nottingham, 79, rural Effingham, KS, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Medicalodge Nursing Center in Atchison. Con-Celebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 23, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Ann's Church of Effingham, KS, with Rev. Benjamin Tremmel, O.S.B. as principal celebrant. Interment will follow in Monrovia Cemetery east of Effingham. A parish rosary and vigil service will be Sunday, May 22, at 7 p.m., in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation following until 9 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Ann's Church and may be left in care of the funeral home. Barbara was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Harley and Lula Bradley Yocum. She attended Atchison Public Elementary Schools graduating from Atchison High School. She attended Mt. St. Scholastica College, Atchison, KS. She and Leslie Nottingham were united in marriage on July 27, 1945, at St. Benedict's Church, Atchison. They moved to the Monrovia Community west of Atchison and were engaged in agriculture all their married life. Mr. Nottingham survives. She was a member of St. Ann's Church, having been a former president of the Altar Society, a member of the parish council and church choir. She also formerly taught religious education. She served as a lector and eucharistic minister within the church. She and her husband were active participants of the Meals-On-Wheels program delivering meals to home bound residents. She was also a member of the Happy Hour Extension Club and always served as a registrant for the Atchison County Fair. Barbara was an accomplished soloist and in her youth performed numerously in the community and instilled the love of music in her children. A devout and dignified wife, mother and grandmother. She always shared her priorities of love of God, Family, Church and Community. Additional survivors include three daughters, Barbara Bopp, Weston, MO; Kathy Swann, Topeka, KS, Diane Heerman, Manhattan, KS; five sons;, David, Olathe, KS, Michael, Schertz, TX, Stephen, Kansas City, MO, John, Ozawkie, KS, Paul, Kansas City, KS; two brothers, John Yocum, Higginsville, MO, Donald Yocum, Grain Valley, MO; 16 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Evelyn Kellner.

Barbara Yocum Nottingham is a cousin of S. Katie Yocam Hamilton # 56965536 also buried at Monrovia Cemetery. They are both granddaughters of George William Yocam of Bean Lake Station, Missouri.
