LORRAINE DEAUN (REEVES) WADE WILLIAMS

Lorraine DeAun (Reeves) Wade Williams was born on June 15, 1922, in Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas. Lorraine was the only child born to Joyce Lavon (Hartley) and James Leslie "Jimmy" Reeves. Lorraine's mother Joyce was the 8th Great Granddaughter of pilgrims, Elizabeth Tilley and John Howland, making Lorraine a direct line descendent of the early immigrants.

Lorraine moved from Kansas, to Yakima along with her mother and grandmother. Her mother Joyce divorced and remarried Alfred Gustav Harris, on July 09, 1936. Lorraine graduated June 07, 1940 from Yakima High School, Yakima County, Washington. She loved singing in the Glee Club and Drama.

One year later, on her birthday, June 15, 1941, she married her High School sweetheart George Elvin Wade. George and Lorraine had three daughters: Joycelllen DeAun, Marce Nita Erylene, and Sharon Lee Wade. Lorraine, the wife of a minister, worked in the home raising her daughters and keeping house. They later divorced, on December 23, 1960. Lorraine sold her wedding rings and bought a watch for each one of her daughters. For Sharon, she bought an Alice in Wonderland watch that she still has tucked away in a tiny velvet pouch.

Lorraine went to work for Crystal Linen as a Press Operator. She worked the hot presses every day and had scars from her hands all the way up her arms from the burns she received daily but she never complained. Later she also managed the Glencourt Apartments where with the help of her aunt and uncle she was able to buy her first home which she rented out to help pay for the loan on the home. She made a commitment to pay off the value of the loan before she lived in the home herself. When she moved in to her home, she moved in to it debt free. Lorraine, accepted a position at Peoples Department store on Yakima avenue, where she worked in the Maintenance Department for many years, supporting herself and always quick to help her daughters whenever she saw a need. From buying VCR's, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and wedding gowns, to setting up a household two times for a daughter in a troubled marriage.

On October 03, 1970, Lorraine married Harvey Lloyd Williams, the divorced father of two daughters, rounding out their combined family to five adult daughters. Harvey and Lorraine remained married until he died on October 12, 1983, in Yakima.

Lorraine loved dolls! She loved to make them, collect them, and buy them for all of the girls in the family. She made clothing so that every doll was always well dressed. She also loved to sew and crochet, making dresses, nightgowns, ponchos, blankets, pillows, and table coverings. When each grandchild was born, they were showered with beautiful things that she had made especially for the child. One trademark item that she always made was a soft receiving gown and robe that was made from a pattern that her mother Joyce had made for Deaun, Marcie, and Sharon, when they were babies. After her youngest grandchild Brienne, was born, the delicate pattern was passed on to her youngest daughter Sharon for safekeeping.

Lorraine kept a beautiful home which she happily shared with pets, from tiny parakeets, to dogs, and cats. She loved them all and they loved her too. She passed on her love of crafts, handwork, artwork, and animals to all three of her daughters and her grandchildren.

Lorraine had eleven grandchildren, all of whom she adored: Donald Niles, Jr., Shellie (Niles) Zamora, Lana (Niles) Wharton, Geoerl Niles, Shawn Niles, Michael Eidsmoe, Markeeta (Eidsmoe) Ridings, Preston Eidsmoe, Brandon Coughlin, Christina Coughlin, and Brienne Coughlin. As each grandchild neared the time to start First Grade, Lorraine vowed that she was going to buy a complete wardrobe for each one as a send off for their school years. That was a promise she kept with the exception of her last three grandchildren because they did not attend public school, so she did not see a need to buy them school clothing. Even so, Grandma made certain that no daughter or grandchild was ever without and she was always quick to give away anything that she had – sometimes she would give too much and then find herself asking for the items back or having to buy a replacement item for herself. Daughters and grandchildren learned quickly to hang on to anything that Grandma gave them – because one would never know when she would ask for the item to be returned or simply change her mind or just decide that someone else needed it more.

On July 06, 2013, Lorraine went home to be with Jesus. She leaves behind a family who, much to her disappointment could not manage to get along in the same room for more than five minutes at a time, but one thing they could all agree upon was that they all loved her dearly and miss her more than words could ever say.
