J D Larimore sent in the following obituary obit published in the Roseburg, OR "The News-Review" on Feb. 6, 2015:
Alma Louise Olsen Hein, age 96, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, in Roseburg, OR. Born August 3, 1918, to a Danish immigrant family, Alma grew up on a farm where Danish and English were spoken. Her father, a progressive farmer in Ute, Iowa, was one of the first to use crop rotation techniques and alternative power sources.
A gifted student, Alma was valedictorian of her high school class, attended Union College in Lincoln, NE, later working as an administrative assistant for the Montana and Oregon Conferences of Seventh-day Adventists and at the Washington State Capitol in Olympia.
She met Clifford Hein in Portland, OR, and they were married on September 2, 1944. They moved to Sutherlin in 1947, built a dental practice, raised two sons, contributed to their community and played leadership roles in the Sutherlin Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Avid travelers, Alma and Cliff toured through Europe, Asia, Australia, but above all enjoyed the annual driving trips to the East Coast for fall colors, Florida beaches and Arizona sunsets. A woman of many interests, Alma was an avid reader, worked crossword and jigsaw puzzles, dabbled in ceramics, studied art history, cultivated a garden, contributed to a cookbook and served in the Sutherlin Lady Lions.
Alma and Clifford celebrated sixty-five years of marriage in 2009. They were always ready to pick up their two grandsons after school for ice cream, Abby’s pizza or trips through Wildlife Safari.
Alma lived in Sutherlin 31 years and in 1978, moved to Winchester, OR, upon Cliff’s retirement. After his death in 2010, she lived at Callahan Village & Court in Roseburg. Her family is grateful for the wonderful care she received there and also for the faithful visits of Sheila May Garrow, a family friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford; her parents; and two brothers, David and Curtis Olsen.
She is survived by her two sons, James (Vikki) of Roseburg, and George (Don) of Enguera, Spain; two grandsons, Scott (Lisa) of Portland, OR, and Matt of Bend, OR; and three great grandsons Julian, Quentin and Luca.
Burial was at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Sutherlin Seventh-day Adventist Church at 3 p.m.
