Betty Ruth Johnson, 84, of 109 Madison Road, Ridgeway, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on Aug. 4, 1924, to James T. Handy and Lillian Gunter Handy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold E. Johnson; a son, Marvin J. Johnson; three sisters, Mabel Nowlin, Marie Rogers and Barbara Handy; and five brothers, Clanton Handy, James Handy, John Handy, Raymond Handy and Paul Handy.
She was a homemaker and a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret J. Brown of Martinsville; a son, Ronald E. Johnson of Ridgeway; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Norris Funeral Services with the Rev. Rick Wilkie officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Abbey.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
