Ivan Dowden, 95, went to be with the Lord, Monday, July 1, 2013, at an Arlington hospital. Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Handley Baptist Church. Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Home. Ivan was born Jan. 23, 1918, to James Cleveland and Ada Booty Dowden in Kisatchie, La. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Panama from 1936-1938. Ivan returned and married Ruby Lee Manasco in 1939. They moved to Fort Worth, where Ivan worked for General Motors as a general foreman in inspection and retired after 28 years of service. Ivan loved missions and was in charge of the HBC Mission House for missionaries. He had a vision for building a church in Panama, which later became a reality. Ivan served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Handley Baptist. His lifelong hobby was raising flowers which brought him great joy. Ivan was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Watkins. Survivors: His wife of 73 years, Ruby Lee Dowden; his daughter, Sandra Offner and her husband, Bob; son-in-law, Bob Watkins and his wife, Judy; four grandchildren and their spouses; and seven great-grandsons.
