Talmadge H. Fickling, 81, went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2013 at Hadlow Center Community Hospice. He was born February 20, 1932 in Jacksonville, and was a life long resident. Talmadge served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Sergeant 1st class at age 21. Talmadge started a construction company with his brother in 1965, which is still family owned and operated. He loved NASCAR racing, antique automobiles and Cushman Scooters. He loved traveling in his motor home meeting new friends along the way. Talmadge's family was always his first priority, always there to help and advise. He loved his church (NJBC) and hosting Sunday School parties at his home. He is preceded in death by his father Grady, his mother Maude and his first wife Ruth. He is survived by his current wife Joan; son Alan Fickling (Jeanine); daughter Lisa Allen (Tim); stepson Todd Jones (Katie). Grandchildren; Jessica Allen, T. Justin Allen (Mandy), Blake Fickling (Courtney) and Brent Fickling. Step-grandchildren; Fisher, Maggie, Kerin and Grady Jones. Great grandchildren; Avery Fickling and Hayes Fickling. Also his brother Earl Fickling (Virginia) and his sister Bernice Waas along with many other loving relatives. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening July 9, 2013 (TODAY) at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main St. Jacksonville, FL 32206. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM July 10, 2013 at North Jacksonville Baptist Church, 8631 N. Main St. Jacksonville, FL with Dr. Herb Reavis officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army.
