The French family were migrant farm workers and the family consisted of William and Iva, two of their sons, Claude and James along with their wives and children. They moved from Oklahoma to Texas to Arizona about the time of the occurrence of the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma.
When Annie Mae Cannady French (William Thomas' sister in law and his brother Mason's wife) passed away in 1918, William Thomas French and his wife, Iva Mae Harris helped Mason raised his children. The family lived with William and Iva for several years.
