Agnes L. Clausen, age 97 of Dickinson, formerly of Bismarck and Washburn, died July 2nd, 2013 at a Dickinson care center.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 6th at the Goetz Funeral Home Chapel in Washburn with Pastor Erik Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn.

Agnes L. Clausen was born December 3, 1915 in Washburn, ND to Hans A. & Penilla (Mellum) Fischer. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church of Washburn. She graduated from Washburn High School in 1934. She continued her education at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated from Dakota Business College in Fargo. Agnes returned to her hometown of Washburn where she was employed with the Farmers Security Bank, the bank which her father founded and organized in 1919. Agnes married her one and only love, C. Gordon Clausen, on August 18, 1946 at First Lutheran Church, Washburn. They remained together for 53 years. Agnes and Gordon lived in Devils Lake, Garrison, and Fergus Falls, MN where Gordon was employed with Otter Tail Power Company. Agnes enjoyed living in Fergus Falls due to the fact that nearly everyone was of Norwegian heritage. She was very proud of her Norwegian roots and proclaimed she came from "good genes". Following Gordon's retirement in 1984, they moved to Bismarck to be closer to family. Agnes was active in the McLean County Homemakers Club and was the first officer from McLean County to serve on the North Dakota Extension Homemakers Council. While living in Fergus Falls, she learned how to do Rosemaling and taught herself and many others the art of Hardanger (Norwegain handwork). She demonstrated this art the first year of the Norsk Hostfest in Minot. Agnes loved to entertain and opened her home to celebrate Syttende Mai, the Norwegain Constitution Day. Always noted for her hospitality, her guests regularly went home with a piece of Hardanger. She also made many prayer shawls for the local hospice. Agnes is remembered for being a classy and proper lady, and even at the age of 97 remained aware of the latest fashion trends. In 2007, Agnes moved to Hawks Point in Dickinson and later to the St. Benedict's Health Center in 2010. She was never one to sit in her room and always wanted to be near the nurse's station where she could greet everyone that walked by. Her greeting of "Happy Tuesday" was her final one.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Rick) Price of Dickinson; two grandsons, Reed (Dana) Price and Colby Price, both of Dickinson; two great-grandchildren, Jack & Arley Price; one brother, Robert Fischer of Colorado; one niece & one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband (in 1999), her parents, and two brothers (Harold and Paul who were killed in action during World War II).

Memorials are preferred to the Riverview Cemetery Association (PO Box 436, Washburn, ND 58577).
