Edward J. Phillips Sr., 79, Bellevue, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, June 30, 2013.

He was born Jan. 17, 1934, in Bismark, Ohio, the son of Leon and Roselia (Hay) Phillips. He married Maureen (Ruffing) on Nov. 25, 1965, at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church.

Ed graduated from Bellevue High School in 1952 and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the former St. Sebastian Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a retired truck driver and worked for Sunrise Co-Op. He enjoyed watching all sporting events, especially his grandchildren playing football. He also never missed a performance at the Bellevue Society for the Arts that his grandson, Trevor, participated in. He followed Seneca East, Bellevue, and Heidelberg Football. He loved his family and especially his grandkids. Ed participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes every year with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen; son, Edward (Drehma) Phillips Jr., Bellevue; daughters, Valerie Phillips, Bellevue, and Cheryl (Scott) Schaffer, Bellevue; three grandchildren, Evan and Trevor Schaffer and Koen Daviduk; and a brother, Norbert (Gail) Phillips, Norwalk.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard Phillips; sisters, Agnes Linder, Ida Fries, Mildred Lonz and twin sisters, Bernadette and Bernadine Phillips.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 3, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, Ohio, with the Rosary being recited at 1:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 4, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 231 E. Center St., Bellevue. Burial will follow in St. Sebastian's Cemetery, Bismark.

Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10004; or the Tiger Football Foundation, c/o of the funeral home.
