J. W. "PETE" SANDEFER, age 80, of Stafford, Texas, born May 31, 1933, in Rosenberg, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

Pete is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Marie Sandefer; son, J.W. Sandefer, Jr. and his wife Cheryl; daughters, Carol Stanley and her husband Darrell, and Patricia Greenway; 2 granddaughters and many other loving relatives and friends.

Pete was raised and attended school in Alice, Texas. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He met his bride and love of his life, Marie, while he was stationed with the Army in Ohio. After receiving an honorable discharge from the service, he worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years.

Pete spent much of his time volunteering with the Sugar Creek Children's Ministry and with Sugar Creek Second Mile. Working with children was one of his passions, and he was always available to offer positive and uplifting support. He also enjoyed attending and watching sporting events with his friends and family and was especially fond of cheering for the Houston Rockets, Astros, Oilers, and Texans.

Anyone who met Pete knew he loved the Lord and his family. The special delights of his life were his 2 grandchildren, Nicole and Jeannie. He also loved getting to know people and building relationships with anyone he met. Pete was a blessing to all the lives he touched.

Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit). Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in the Chapel @ Sugar Creek Baptist Church, 13333 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land. Interment will follow at 11:15 AM, Monday, July 8, 2013, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pete's memory may be made to Sugar Creek Baptist Church Children's Ministries, Second Mile Mission Center in Missouri City or to The Church at Bethel's Family, 12660 Sandpiper, Houston, TX 77035.
