Charles A. ASHDOWN

ASHDOWN, Charles A. age 88 of Fairfield died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at his home. He was born in Troy, New York on August 14, 1924, the son of Frank and Rose (Desnoyer) Ashdown and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII. On April 18, 1946, in Franklin, Indiana he married Eula Mae Burer and she preceded him in death in February 17, 1987. Charles worked as a postal supervisor for 31 years, retiring on August 14, 1979, and later he worked as Fire Chief for Fairfield Fire Department for 25 years retiring on September 1, 1982. Mr. Ashdown was a member of St. Ann Church, the Hamilton Senior Citizens, the American Legion, the VFW Chuck Cain Post, AMVETS Post # 2, the Eagles, and the Knights of Columbus # 968. Survivors include two children, Charlotte R. (Thomas) Schwartz, and Charles Mark Ashdown; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchild; four great great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Ashdown; a sister, Rose Mary Allen; a son-in-law, Ray Woodbridge. Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by two children, Paul F. Ashdown, and Rose Ann Woodbridge. Prayers will be offered at 10:00am Saturday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am Saturday in St. Ann Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm Friday in the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association .
