Mr. Baker was born on October 1, 1933, to Avery A. and Jewell Carpenter Baker. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Louisville, Mississippi. He answered the call to serve his country by serving in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was also a Mason, a Shiner, and a volunteer Fireman. He served on the local Board of Alderman and was the owner of Baker Ready Mix for 34 years.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Peggy Kemp Baker; his sons, Billy Don Baker and wife, Cindy, and Bobby Baker and wife, Tracey, all of Louisville; and his daughter, Kathy Martin and husband, Allen, of West Point, Mississippi. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy McDowell and husband, Billy, also of Louisville, Mississippi. Mr. Baker has seven grandchildren: Brooke Baker, Brock Baker, Christopher Baker, Cortland Baker, Alison Mathis, Susan and Lamar Hodges, and Michael Martin; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Baker is preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Roy Baker.
Serving as pallbearers will be J. B. Blanset, Mark Covington, Cully Hudspeth, Rudy Johnson, Clay Moore, Buddy Prisock, and Tom Simmons. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Baker Ready Mix Employees.
