Obituary of Otis C. Wierson

Funeral services for Otis C. Wierson were held on Tuesday, October 13, 1959 at Erickson Funeral Home at 1:30 and at Salem Lutheran Church at 2 p.m., with Pastor Everett N. Nelson in charge.

Mrs. Harold Hovick and Mrs. Darrell Larson sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" at the funeral home, and a ladies sextet, composed of Mrs. Cyrus Christian, Mrs. Lester Olson, Mrs. Everett Nelson, Mrs. Glen Egland, Mrs. Harold Hovick and Mrs. Darrell Larson sang two songs at the church service, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Under His Wings".

Burial was in the Roland Cemetery. Pall bearers were Ben Jacobson, Pete Frette, Carroll Jacobson, Twedt Hanson, Ward Tjelmeland, and Oscar E. Twedt.

People from the following towns besides Roland attended the funeral: Waterloo, Jefferson, Newton, Des Moines, Panora, Webster City, Grimes, Colo, Collins, Ottumwa, Hubbard, Ames, Story City, McCallsburg, Huxley, Slater, Randall, Radcliffe, Nevada, Cambridge, Ft. Dodge, Kelley, Boone and Evansdale, Ind.

Otis Clarence Wierson was born April 19, 1898, on a farm near Story City, and passed away on Oct. 10, 1959, at the Story City Hospital at the age of 61 years, 5 months, and 21 days. He was the son of the late Ole and Carrie Wierson.

He was baptized in the North St. Petri church of Story City by Rev. Tanner, and was confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran church by Rev. Heimark.

On September 3, 1919, he was united in marriage to Angeline Carrie Sheldahl of Roland. To this union seven children were born: Arlene (Mrs. Joe Shore)of Des Moines; Oma (Mrs Don Bauge) of Cambridge; Wesley, of Huxley; Delores (Mrs. Norman Robinson) of Knoxville; Arnold, and Patricia (Mrs Harlan Hall); both of Roland, and Darrell, who died October 12, 1944, at the age of 18 months.

Mr. Wierson was engaged in farming until 1952, when he moved to town. He was employed at Iowa State University until June 1 of this year. He sought medical aid, but was told there was no help to be had for his ailment. He became completely helpless and bedfast.

He is survived by his wife, Angeline; four daughters; two sons; 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Veva Teigland of Evansville, Ind., Mrs. Irvin Goodmanson of Ames, and Mrs. Harvey Jorgenson of Story City; and one brother, Leslie, of Portland, Ore. He was proceeded in death by one son, Darrell; one grandson, Douglas; his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
