Stanley Edward Armstrong, Sr., age 74, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013, in Terrell, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla.


Stanley was born on August 30, 1938, to James Henry and Elma Gertrude (McDonald) Armstrong in Salinas, California. He married Judith Mae Haskell on February 7, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri. Stanley grew up in Caddo, Okla., before serving in the US Army from 1953 to 1957. He moved to St. Louis, Mo., in 1958. Later, he moved to Durant, Okla., then to Ardmore, Okla., while working as a long-haul truck driver. He later opened Southern Oklahoma Paper Recycling. In 1991, he moved with his family throughout the US working in commercial construction until finally settling in Terrell, Texas, in 2001. While in Terrell, Stanley made fast friends with the staff and many patrons at the local Waffle House. He came to regard many he met there as his extended family.


Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judith Mae (Haskell) Armstrong; one son, Stanley Edward Armstrong, Jr.; his sisters; Melva (Armstrong) Wigington and Elva (Armstrong) Auten; and his brother, Jesse Armstrong.


He is survived by his sons; Eric Armstrong of Ardmore, Okla., and Paul Armstrong of St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren, Stanley Armstrong III, of St. Louis, Mo., Aaron Armstrong of Ardmore, Okla., Sara Beth Armstrong of Ardmore, Okla., and Melynda Diebel of Ardmore, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Ryan Armstrong and Emma Kraus of Sedalia, Mo.; brother, Jimmy Armstrong, of Wichita Falls, Texas; sister, Winona (Armstrong) Mueller, of Colbert, Okla.; and his brother, William Armstrong, of Durant, Okla.


Family visitation will be held on Monday evening, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., July 1, 2013, at Griffin~Hillcrest,


There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge, 2526 S. Commerce St., Ardmore, Okla., immediately following the funeral services.
