A Good Woman Dies

On Saturday morning, Sept. 17, at 4:30, death released from
its earth tenement the spirit of Mrs. Mary E. Thomas. She
was in her seventy third year. Mrs. Thomas had been on the
verge of a dissolution for almost ten days and when the
final end came, she went away as one going into a peaceful
slumber.

She was very dangerously ill from the first and it is doubtful
if she ever realized her condition, yet her life is proof that had
she known the end was near, she would have felt no concern
for her self, except the pain that must come to her loved ones
over the parting.

In the days past she had talked most beautifully of the future
and seemed to view the "other shore" as a certain inheritance
where all is joy, peace, happiness and contentment. Her life in
death typified her character in living. She was a retiring woman.
Her haven was her own family and her own household - to these
she consecrated her energies and her best thought. For them
she would make any sacrifice. Modern society had little charms
for her. She was and had long been, a consistent member of the
Presbyterian church. A fervent prayer and scripture reading was
offered at the grave by the pastor, Rev. J.C. Carothers, which
was the only service held over her remains. A profusion of floral
tributes attested the interest of many friends in the deceased
and their sympathy for the weeping ones in this sad and solemn
hour. Mrs. Thomas is survived by two sons, J.T. and Lawrence,
two daughters, Mrs. Salmon and Miss Kate, a half brother,
J.T. Nason besides numerous other relatives to whom the
Sentinel tenders sincere sympathy.
