Mrs. Goldie Smith, 72, of Ute, & a former resident of Soldier for many years, died of a heart attack while visiting her daughter, Mrs. LaVada Johnson in Sioux City on 30 Dec., where she had gone to visit a few days before.
Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church, Sat. 2 Jan. at 2 p.m., with Pastor Maynard Moen officiating.
Mrs. Marjorie Engebretson was soloist, accompanied by Miss Janice Olson. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Pallbearers were Arthur Gibbs, Chris Steen, Maurice Graetz, Andy Ballantyne, Page Carlson & Donald Halverson.
Mrs. Goldie Smith, daughter of Andrew & Mary Mallum, was born 20 Apr. 1887 at Oslo, Norway. At the age of 7, she came to the United States with her family, settling near Soldier.
On 19 Jan. 1910, she was married to Orville Smith at Ute. The couple moved to Salix, later returning to Soldier in 1947, before moving to Ute in 1953. Mrs. Smith was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church.
She departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. LaVada Johnson of Sioux City on 30 Dec. 1959, at the age of 72 years, 8 months & 10 days. She would have celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary 19 Jan. 1960.
She is survived by her husband, Orville of Ute; 2 daughters, Mrs. Elna Blackford of Racine, Wisc. & Mrs. Johnson of Sioux City; 1 son, Everett of Rochester, Minn.; 1 sister, Mrs. Tillie Chamberlain of Mapleton; 2 brothers, Arthur Mallum of Wakefield, Neb. & Severt Mallum of Harlan, Iowa; 6 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers & 4 sisters. She also leaves a host of other relatives & friends.
