Shirley Penrod Adkins passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in Kingman. She was born to Dellie and Ida Belle Penrod on April 4, 1939, in Hunt Valley, Ariz.

After the passing of her parents, she moved to Kingman to live with her brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Mary Ruth Penrod, at Blake's Ranch.

She graduated from Mohave County Union High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart, David Adkins, in 1958. Together they ran a successful business, Dave Adkins Loader Service. The work led them to various ranches and small towns around the state, including Kirkland, Seligman, and Tacna. Shirley helped David with the business while raising a family, which included son Kevin and daughter Shirlene. Shirley loved her family and loved making people laugh with her jokes and quirky sayings, which will always be remembered by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years; her brothers, Clyde, Ted and Preston Penrod; and her sisters, Wanda Young and Dee Whiting.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Adkins, daughter Shirlene (Mark) Burt; granddaughters, Danni, Darragh and Anna; grandsons, Dillon, Colter and Cody; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Maddie; and many nieces and nephews. We love you and will miss you, Aunt Shirley.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home.

She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Show Low, Ariz.
