He graduated from UPI University in 1959. He was a very athletic man, honest and decent, although quiet at times. He liked to play a mandolin that he often took during long hiking trips. His father was a professor at another Sverdlovsk University. Although Rustem was ethnically Russian, his father gave him a traditional Tatar name, following a popular trend emphasizing international friendship between all men.
Died in the Dyatlov Pass Incident. He was 23 years old.
