Wednesday, Jul 30, 2008, CARTHAGE -- Funeral services for Johnny Oscar Edmonds, 61, of Chestnut Mound, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dickens Cemetery in the Maggart Community.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 30, and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Edmonds died Sunday, July 27, 2008, in Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage, due to injuries sustained in an ultralite plane accident.

He was born Sept. 29, 1946, in the Bloomington Springs Community of Putnam County to the late Henry Milton and Maggie Pauline Jackson Edmonds.

He was employed with the Smith County Landfill ad a heavy equipment operator since 2005. Before that, he worked with the Smith County Highway Department since 1992. Mr. Edmonds was also a logger and a member of Dillards Creek Community Church. He was a member of the Smith County High School class of 1964.

His family includes his wife of 38 years, Peggy Dale Vaden Edmonds of Chestnut Mound (whom he married on Aug. 12, 1970, in Hartsville); two daughters, Wendy Edmonds and fiance Clyde Davis of Granville and Tracy Ferriss of Baxter; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Glenna Edmonds of Carthage; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna Ruth and Ray Wilson and Sarah and Donnie Hunter, all of Bloomington Springs, Beulah and Roy Randolph of Silver Point and Betty and Barry Jackson of Cookeville; a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny M. (Buck) and Sandra Edmonds of Elmwood; and 10 grandchildren, D.J. Preston, Jessica and Jennifer Edmonds, Dustin, Kayci, Amanda and Lisa Ferriss, Gary (Bubba) and Melissa (Sissy) Dunkerson and Alicia Minton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Doralean Bush Edmonds.

His pastor, Bro. Bobby Ray, will officiate at the services.
