DROWNED - Mrs. Cora Barber, who lives on the west side of the Middle Nodaway, started on horseback to visit some friends living on the east side of the river last Sunday, a week ago, and in attempting to ford the river was drowned. The lady was missing several days, and search was prosecuted in vain in all parts of the country, many supposing that she had wandered off in the country somewhere, as she had not been in sound idea for some time. At last the pony was found in the bend of the river, which told the sad tale of her fate. Search was found where the boy had crossed, and parties commenced to drag the river. On Friday, the body was found floating on the river about half a mile below where the pony was crossed. Mrs. Barber was married last spring, and is the daughter of Moses Welch, living north of town. She was but seventeen years of age at her death.
