Former resident of Jefferson county, Mrs. Mary J Axtell of Denver, Colo., died in Rose Memorial hospital there Feb. 2, 1970 at the age of 96 years, 4 months and 29 days.
Mary J. Richardson, daughter of George H. Richardson and Susan Burns Richardson, was born Sept., 3, 1873 in Indiana. She came to Nebraska with her parents, who settled in the Helvey community, where she attended rural school.
She was married to George Axtell and to them two daughters, Grace and May, were born. Both preceded their mother in death.
Mrs. Axtell was a charter member of the Fairbury chapter of the royal Neighbors of America and after moving to Colorado she served in the high office of Grand Oracle of the Colorado jurisdiction of the royal Neighbors.
Mrs. Axtell was an accomplished seamstress and worked as a sewing machine operator for the Tammen Company in Denver.
Her husband, George, preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1934
Surviving are four sisters and one brother, Mrs. G.E. Webb of Crete, Mrs. C.C. Donahue and Mrs. Ethel Rutledge, both of Seal Beach, Calif., Mrs. Cora Foster of Long Beach, Calif., and Ira Richardson of Bladen.
Funeral services were Feb. 7 afternoon in the Traum-Vance-Gerdes chapel with Rev. Herbert Jackman of the Methodist church officiating. Interment was in the Fairbury cemetery.
