Vernon Rath

Vernon J. Rath, 70, of 2417 E. 30th St., Bremerton, a retired drilling company owner and big game hunter, died Wednesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Edmonton, Alberta.

Mr. Rath married Helen Henderson in 1938 and they lived in Black Diamond, Alberta, where he worked in the Turner Valley oil fields for several years.

In 1944, the Raths came to Bremerton and he was employed at Keyport until the end of World War II. Mr. Rath later started his own business, Rath Drilling Co.

He was active in drilling for many years until his retirement.

Mr. Rath enjoyed big game hunting, rock hounding and traveling.

He was a charter member of the Northwest Opal Association, and a member of the Kitsap Mineral and Gem Society and the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, David of Poulsbo and Peter of Moses Lake in Grant County; a daughter Eleanore Lasley of Shelton; his mother, Ruth Talbot of White Rock, B.C.; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 3 p.m.at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Coronary Care Unit at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
