Maynard Thomas Armentrout, 85, of Waynesboro, died May 2, 2005, in Waynesboro.

Mr. Armentrout was born April 29, 1920, in Keezletown , and was the son of the late Owen C. (Red) Armentrout and Halsie Elizabeth (Lizzie) Clatterbuck Armentrout.

He was a member of Fishersville United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Men's Bible Study Group and past president of the Methodist Men. He also served as a volunteer with the Home Bound Meals. He retired from Dupont in Waynesboro in 1978 with 38 years of service. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, 1941-1945, as a member of a radar unit on anti-submarine duty in the Caribbean. Mr. Armentrout operated a farm in Keezletown for many years, then sold it to the Geisert family, with whom he became very close. He was an avid gardener.

He was preceded in death by an infant son and his wife of 42 years, Ruby Ann (Dunlap) Armentrout.

He is survived by numerous cousins and a very close cousin, Bryan C. Clatterbuck.

Pastor Roy White will conduct the funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Fishersville United Methodist Church in Fishersville, followed by a graveside service in Keezletown Cemetery . Active pallbearers will be Joel Geisert, Daniel Geisert, Steve Harpine, David Larson, Powhatan Red Cloud-Owen, Gary Walker, Jerry Weaver and Todd Wright.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Rexrode, James Bosserman, J.E. Wheeler Jr., James McGrath and James Stott.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 9, 7-8 p.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Fishersville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1049, Fishersville, VA.
