Sarah Burton Edwards, daughter of Allen and Silva Burton, was born in North Carolina, March 23, 1822.
The parents afterwards moved to this state and settled near the old Spice Valley church, west of Mitchell.
She was married to Wesley Edwards in 1841. This union was blessed with seven children, only two of the number, Herbert Edwards of Bedford, and Mrs. Richard Hall of Mitchell, survive her. The other five children with the husband and father preceded her to the Spirit world.
Sister Edwards professed faith in Christ and united with the Spice Valley Baptist church about 60 years ago. She afterward moved her membership to the Mitchell Baptist church, where she remained a constant member and a devoted Christian until death.
She lived a long and active and industrious life, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Richard Hall, Friday morning, Aug. 11th, at 7 a.m., at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 17 days.
The funeral services were conducted at the residence Saturday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, by Rev. W.A. Sanders, the remains were laid away in Mitchell cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
She leaves one son and one daughter, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother, two sisters and many other relatives and friends to mourn the loss.
