Born in Providence, he was a son of the late George and Elizabeth (Larkin) Battey. H had lived in East Greenwich before moving to North Kingstown 36 years ago.
Mr. Battey had also been a manufacturing engineer in the small tool division of Brown & Sharpe manufacturing Co. for 20 years.
He was a past president of the South County board of Realtors and was a certified residential specialist real estate broker. He was a founder of the former East Greenwich Credit Union, and was a active in several community organizations, including the North Kingstown Taxpayers Association.
He leaves three sons, J. Robert Battey of West Warwick, Thomas M. Battey and Mark S. Battey, both of North Kingstown; a daughter, Joan E. Ainscough of Mystic, Conn.; tow sisters, Mae Briggs and Alice Richtarik, both of East Greenwich; a brother, Raymond Battey of East Greenwich, and eight grandchildren. He also was a brother of the late George Battey Jr.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Hill funeral Home, 822 main St., East Greenwich, with a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St Francis de Sales Church, School Street, North Kingstown. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery.
