J. Walter Collins Jr., 71, of Salisbury, died Sunday, August 10, 2003 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late John W. Collins Sr. and Hazel F. Collins.

Mr. Collins was a sergeant in the U.S. Army from November 1952 to September 1954 serving 17 months in the Korean Conflict. Memberships include: American Legion, life member and was active on several committees and held various offices in the Hebron Lions Club, and Ruritan Club. He was a life time member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and for many years was assistant treasurer for the Sunday School and also served on various other committees. He was a self employed building contractor. He loved working with oak wood creating crafts which he entered in many craft shows throughout Maryland and Delaware.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara T. Collins of Salisbury; a son and his wife, Lance and Susan Collins of Salisbury; a daughter and her husband, Janet and Robert Batchelder of Hebron; four grandchildren: Kari Collins, Megan Batchelder, Ryan Batchelder, and Phillip Collins; sister, Esther Phillips of Berlin; mother and father-in-law, John and Kathleen Dykes of Salisbury and a nephew, Robin Johnson of Berlin.

A funeral service to be held Friday, August 15, 2003 at 11 AM at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 9 PM and Friday one hour prior to the service. The Rev. William B. Cropper will officiate. Interment will be in Hebron Cemetery in Hebron, MD.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to St. Paul's United Methodist Church Lazarus Fund, PO Box 29, Hebron, MD 21830.
