E. Leon Cormier, 90, died Aug. 4, 2002, at The Pines in Newmarket NH after a period of failing health. Leon was born on Nov. 26, 1911, in Rochester NH, the son of Treffle and Florida (Turcotte) Cormier. Leon was raised in Rochester where he graduated from Holy Rosary Grammar School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a welder, retiring with 24 years of service.


Mr. Cormier had lived in Rochester most of his life but had lived in Somersworth NH for many years. He had recently moved with his wife to Newmarket. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rochester and had been a member of the Holy Name Society.


Family members include his wife Blanche L. (Palardy) Cormier of Newmarket; son George Cormier of Amherst NY; daughter Mrs. David (Claire) Vincent of Port Bryan IL; step-sons Valmond Vachon of Riverside CA and Richard Vachon of W. Palm Beach Gardens FL; three grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.


He was predeceased by his first wife, Beatrice (Boucher) Cormier, who died in 1969; brother Eugene Cormier; and sister Irene Delaurier.


Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South Street in Somersworth. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Rochester, on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.
