Walter Weakley, son of Earl Foster and Mary Emily Roberts Weakley, joined the Navy 11 Dec 1941. He was not old enough, but got his Mom to sign paper saying he was old enough. He served until the end of WWII with most of his time on CA-36 the USS Minneapolis. On 26 July 1944 he left CA-36 for duty on CA-32 the USS New Orleans and CA-45 USS Wichita. All three were Heavy Cruisers that saw duty in every battle in the Pacific in WWII except Iwo Jima. Uncle Walter was on board the USS Minneapolis during these battles. His time on other Cruisers was after the CA 36's bow was blown off all the way to the first gun battery. CA-36 made it to Pearl Harbor for repair and Walter went to other cruisers. Once repaired he was back on CA-36. He was on it when the war ended.
Walter Weakley came home and married Charlie Anne Harris of Richmond, Texas and they had three children: Linda Carol, David Warren and Kathy Loraine.

Walter was a direct descendent of William Carpenter, a militiaman who answered the Lexington Alarm, and fought for over three years with the Continental Army in the American Revolution.
