Gunder was born in October of 1756, on the Anonby farm in Oymark, Ostfold, Norway, and baptised in the Oymark Church on October 31. He was one of the seven children of Thorsten Anonby and Ingrid Krosby. On February 18, 1789, he married Mari Buer (Flovik) in the Oymark Church. Gunder and Mari had twelve children. Gunder died on the Anonby farm on March 16, 1826 and is buried in the Oymark Church Yard.
