Bill was born in Auburn, Placer County, California at Auburn Faith Hospital. He was a happy baby and a healthy child. His nickname, "Blum" came from his brother Glenn who called him Bill, then William, then Billiam, and finally Blum. The whole family picked it up and when we speak of him, which is often, we always refer to him as "Blum".
He had the usual childhood diseases including mumps which he happily shared with his grandpa "Candy" and his uncle John. Although Bill was healthy he was rather accident prone. At the age of 11 he fell off a Honda bike and split his lower lip open on a pine tree snag. After 11 stitches to put his lip back together, he had only a small scar after healing.
Bills first dog was a black Lab that he named "Barrow the Wonder Dog". He loved that dog and was loved in return. Bill was a Cub Scout in his mom's den and went on to become a Boy Scout. He and his Scout Troop planted pine trees on Sunset Avenue in Rocklin – some may still be there.
Bill enjoyed school and while in High School he worked as a Band Manager – a position of someone who did all the heavy work for the High School Band. Del Oro High School in Loomis had an award winning band for years and Bill and his buddy Steve did setups, tear-downs. He called himself a "band-aid". Bill graduated from Del Oro, Cum Laude.
Bills first full time job was as a sales associate at Easters Stationery. He worked for them for a couple of years, and as he was always interested in drawing, this job gave him the opportunity to get the art supplies he wanted.
In about 1983 Bill moved to Hollywood, CA and worked for a company that set up lighting and sound systems for concerts. He loved music and collected over 1000 LP albums. He had just begun collecting CD's when he became sick.
Bill and his roommate Jon moved to Ventura where his mom lived and Bill worked many different jobs through a temp agency.
Bill was a happy, funny, quirky boy and then man who loved everyone he met and was never a stranger to anyone. He was quick to smile and had a great laugh.
