Royce E. Whitford, 66, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Rochester General Hospital.
Royce was born March 27, 1945 in Hornell, the son of the late Harold E. and Lois M. (McDaniel) Whitford. Royce had been a life-long resident of the Dansville and Arkport areas and had been employed by Wegmans for many years. Royce loved to dance - especially line dancing which he enjoyed teaching. He also liked square dancing, clogging, tap dancing at the VA Hospital in Bath and on stage at the Minstrel Show. Royce loved Niagara Falls and he especially enjoyed going to the casino in Salamanca and Atlantic City, along with playing bingo.
Royce is survived by his sister, Diane (Pat) Kenney of Dansville; uncle, Cyrus (Jean) Buckholz of Arkport; aunt, Shirley McDaniel of Dansville; niece, Brandi (Bill) Delaney of Dansville; nephew, Todd (Stacie) Faulds of Coral Springs, Fla.; great-nieces, Lauren and Allison; great-nephews, Jason, Billy and Cameron; and his close friend, Kevin Johnson of Arkport.
Royce's family and friends called 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., wayland. Royce's funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Stephens officiating. Interment will be at Arkport Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Royce E. Whitford's memory may be made to the Sparta Center United Methodist Church, 8455 Sparta Center Rd., Dansville, NY 14437; or to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd., Hornell, NY 14843.
