Tom is my Great, Great Grandpa

Tom was a shoemaker in the city of Chattanooga, Hamilton County Tennessee.

1920 Tom lived West 13th St. Chattanooga, TN lists owns Shoe Shop listed as a Widow (divorced)
Father b. in Georgia
Mother b. in Georgia

Tom passed away while visiting his daughter Bertie, in Detroit, Michigan at 1565 12th St

Children:
Ella Lorain Smith (1876- )
Bertie Elizabeth Smith Higgins (1884-1939)
Thomas Lee (Tom) Smith (1886- 1933)
Walter Edward Smith (1894-1944)
Anna Lenore(Smith)Zimmerman (1888-1965)

Tom chewed Brown Mule Chewing Tabbaco, he would send his Great Grand daughter Annie with a dime to buy it and nickel for herself. She said she could get a whole bag of candy for herself and her cousin Buddy and Grandma Bertie.

Annie said she loved to rock in his rocking chair on the porch, but would have to give it back went Mammy (his nick name, by the two kids) wanted it back. She said he would talk about the Old Chattanooga and the family there .

Apparently Tom and his wife Melvina divorced because by the 1920 census they lived in separate places. Sometimes he would live on his own and others with his son Tom and his family.

From what I can find none of his children made it to his funeral except, Bertie because he passed at her home. There was some kind of confusion over were he was to be buried at first he was being sent back to Tennessee but was buried in Detroit instead . From newspaper reports his family had been in a accident and could not make the funeral.

Tom had a brother named Elijah, I have found very little on him. As everyone that are searching
for the Smith name knows how hard it is to separate one from another. My search will continue

Thank you so much in advance for your visit to my G G Grandpa
