Julia Etta Thurston, 87, of Route 17 died Saturday at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Bristol, she was a daughter of Fred and Bertha Cooper Wellman, and attended school in Jefferson.
She was married to David Thurston for 26 years, until his death in November 1956.
Mrs. Thurston lived in Jefferson most of her life. She raised foster children over the years and had operated a boarding home for veterans as well.
Her great-grandson, John J. Colson, died in 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frances E. Brann of Somerville; a sister, Gladys Crabtree of Florida; seven grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren and seven great-great grandchidren.
At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside funeral and committal service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery, Route 126, Jefferson, with the Rev. Warner Howard officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are by Gray and Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor Neck Road, Windsor.
