Trisha Ann (Adamski) Appelhans, age 34, of Luckey, OH passed away unexpectedly after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at The Toledo Hospital, Toledo, OH. She was born on November 26, 1978, in Toledo, OH to Steven and Patricia (Newman) Adamski. While attending school she was very active in softball, basketball and cross country. On May 15, 2004, she married the love of her life, Matthew Appelhans, in Sylvania, OH and he survives. In 1997 she began her career as an EMT for Swanton Rescue and was also a 911 Dispatcher for Fulton County. Trisha received her Paramedic and Fire Certification in 2000 and was employed at UTMC in the ER and volunteered with the Swanton Fire Dept. She graduated at the top of her class academically and clinically. Soon after that, she became a part-time paramedic instructor for Northwest Ohio Paramedics Training Program. At the same time, Trisha worked for Sandusky County EMS until she received a full time position as a medic instructor at UTMC. She was responsible for the education of hundreds of first responders in the Northwest Ohio region. Wanting to pursue her medical career she attended Mercy College School of Nursing in 2004 and became an RN. Trisha was the recipient of The Helen Mae Dickman Award (highest award received for academic excellence) and many other clinical honors from Mercy College. While employed at UTMC she was instrumental in developing the SANE Program. She was a well respected RN at UTMC in the ER with various care giving and supervisory positions. Due to health issues, it devastated Trisha to end her career in 2012.
Her memberships included: Blessed John XXIII Catholic Community, Perrysburg, OH and SPOHNC: Support for People with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer. In her spare time she was a Bethlehem Lutheran Pre School Board Member, Pemberville, volunteered with the Luckey Elementary Reading Program and was a manager and score keeper for the Luckey Ducks softball team. Trisha loved receiving arts and crafts from her daughters and giving them butterfly kisses. She was a loving wife, dedicated and devoted mother, special friend and an inspiration to all that knew her.

She died after fighting an 11-year battle with cancer - basal-cell carcinoma, said her sister-in-law, Tracy Binkowski.
Mrs. Appelhans of Luckey, Ohio, became an EMT for Swanton Rescue and a 911 dispatcher for Fulton County in 1997 right after graduating from Swanton High School.
In 2000, she received both her paramedic and firefighter certifications and worked as a paramedic in the University of Toledo Medical Center's emergency room, and as a volunteer firefighter at the Swanton Fire Department, said her husband, Matthew Appelhans.
In 2001, she became a paramedic instructor for the Northwest Ohio Paramedics Training Program when it was considered one of the best programs in the nation, he said.
"She could see that she could make even more of a difference in training people to do what she does."
After becoming a full-time paramedic instructor at UTMC, the former Medical College of Ohio, she entered Mercy College School of Nursing in 2004.
Mrs. Appelhans also she continued working as a paramedic, gave birth to her first of two daughters, and underwent numerous surgeries, radiation treatments, and rounds of chemotherapy, he said.
"She loved helping people," Mr. Appelhans said. "That was just what she did."
Mrs. Appelhans became a registered nurse in 2007 and when she graduated, she received Mercy College's Mae Dickman Award for academic excellence. She worked full-time in the UTMC emergency room until 2012.
Mrs. Appelhans also was a member of the board of Bethlehem Lutheran Preschool, a volunteer with the Luckey Elementary Reading Program, and the manager and scorekeeper of her daughter's softball team, the Luckey Ducks, Mr. Appelhans.
Ms. Binkowski said softball was one of the ways Mrs. Appelhans bonded with her family. She and Mrs. Appelhans were always trying to get an adult league together.
Ms. Binkowski saw how much Mrs. Appelhans cared about people.
"No matter where she was, whether it was saving a life or just making somebody's day better, she was always helping someone," she said.
