Laura Marie Piazza Burdett, 85, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Washington County Hospital. Born Sept. 8, 1917, in Sicily, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Vito and Vincenza Leo Piazza.

Her husband, Clair Charles Burdett, preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the St. John's Guild and Daughters of King at St. John's. She was a member of Ladies of the Elks, AARP, Mack Trucks Golden Bulldogs, Mack Retiree Club, the Sunshiners, the Keenagers, the Friendship Club, Robinwood Garden Club and Haven Lutheran Senior Citizens. She had been a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group.

She is survived by two sons, James Burdett of Hagerstown, and Charles Burdett of Scranton, Pa.; one brother, August Piazza of Scranton; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Kaczmarek; and two brothers, Anthony Piazza and an infant, Gus Piazza.

Services with communion will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Scott Bellows will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The Burdetts were married Feb. 22, 1941, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Scranton, Pa.

Mr. Burdett retired from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown.

They have three children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
