Struck by Elevator Is Badly Injured
Herbert Prescott puts head in elevator shaft with disastrous results. Attracted by the call of a fellow workman on the top floor of the new Warfield-Pratt-Howell Company Building, Herbert Prescott, aged 25, stuck his head into the shaft and as he looked upward was struck by a descending elevator, which smashed his head and face so badly that his features are hardly recognizable. The iron work of the elevator struck him full in the face, breaking his upper jaw, knocking out all his teeth, injuring his lower jaw and cutting his mouth and bad scalp wounds in the back of his head. His injuries are such that it is doubtful if he will survive. If the attending surgeons save his life it will be necessary to give him an artificial jaw, a part of the upper jaw having been removed. His at the Samaritan hospital in a precarious condition. Prescott resides at Sergeant Bluff where his parents are old pioneers and well to do residents. They arrived at noon and are now at the hospital.
