Esther Hill was married in polygamy to George Gardner on February 23, 1857. A little over a year after their marriage, George's first wife, Sarah Linnell Gardner, died. George and Esther homesteaded a farm east of the fish hatchery in Springville, Utah. Three children were born to the young couple--Sarah Ellen, George Albert, and William George. Esther Hill Gardner gave her life in the birth of their third child. The baby boy died in October of 1861, and the mother followed him in death on November 7, 1861.
