Sarah Linnell was born in Kislingbury, Northamptonshire, England on 17 Nov 1823. She married George Gardner 10 Feb 1846, and George Moroni Gardner was born to the couple on November 11, 1849. The little boy died before the couple emigrated to America in 1852. Sarah was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 8, 1846. She and her husband George settled first in St. Louis, Missouri, and later moved to Springfield, Illinois. In 1856 they crossed the plains to Salt Lake City, Utah. Sarah's health was failing, and she encouraged her husband to marry again because she didn't want him to be left alone. Her fears were well founded, because she passed away on March 1, 1853, just a little over a year after her husband had married his second wife, Esther Hill.

Sarah's husband George paid tribute to her later with the following words: "She lived as a Latter-day Saint. She was faithful and appreciated as a wife and mother whose loss is deeply lamented by her husband." (Quotation from George Gardner's notebook; other information paraphrased by Dale G. Bailey from George Grant Gardner's biographical sketch of the life of George Gardner).

The location of Sarah's grave has been lost. She died in Springville, Utah, and we believe that she is buried in the Springville City Cemetery. There is no record of her burial in Springville or any other city close by. (Dale G. Bailey, June 21, 2013).
