Elizabeth Elzary "Bettie" McCord was the 7th child of John Thomas & Malinda (Norman) McCord. Bettie was b. 14 Nov 1871 at Wolf Summit, Harrison, WV; she d. 27 Jun 1941 at home on Oil Creek, Lewis, WV. On 30 Oct 1892 she married Charles Godfrey b. 13 Jun 1867 in Lewis Co., WV and d. 24 Jun 1937. Charley, a farmer and a blacksmith, was the son of William J Godfrey (1832-1906) & Sarah Jane McCord) Godfrey who died 22 Oct 1890 at 62 yrs of age. Sarah Jane was the only child of Rachel McCord, sister of Aaron McCord. Thus, Bettie & Charley were second cousins by blood. Charley & Bettie, William J. & Sarah Jane rest in Mitchell Cemetery, Roanoke, WV. Rachel was buried in the Peterson Cemetery at Peterson Siding where she lay, neglected and alone, until her grave was recently given a suitable marker. Bettie & Charley had one daughter: Winnie Ethel Godfrey.
