Grover Donald Speight, 81, of Albemarle, passed away, June 19, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be at West Albemarle Baptist Church on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11:00 am with a 30 minute state prior to the service. Rev. Adam Hatley and Rev. Ron Honeycutt will officiate. The burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle.
At other times the family will gather at his home.
Born December 8, 1931 in Stanly County, NC, he is the son of the late Walter Seymore Speight and the late Jeanie Prudence Laton Speight. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Clara Jane Burleson Speight in 2004; brothers, Cletus Speight, Roy Speight and Melvin Speight; and sisters, Ruth Underwood, Mary Belle Lisk, Lillian Mauldin, Rachel Speight, Mabel Fraley and Edith Culp.
He is survived by his sons, Don Michael Speights and wife, Tess, of Richfield and Christopher Dean Speights and wife, Leigh, of Albemarle; grandchildren, Beth Hopkins and husband, Chad, Ben Speights and wife, Casey, Christie Speights and fiance, Alex Carpenter, Jacob Speights; great grandchildren, Ethan Hopkins, Eavan Claire Hopkins, Eli Hopkins and Olivia Speights; sisters, Ozell Pigg and husband, Robert, of Albemarle, Betty Burr and husband Jesse of Wadesboro.
Family and special friends of the family will serve as pall bearers. They are Raymond Jackson, Gary Whitley, Roger Speight, Jimmy Russell, Derrell Hatley, and Donnie Rummage.
A veteran of the US Army, Mr. Speight was retired from ALCOA and enjoyed farming all of his life.
